The Mississippi High School State Swimming Championships recently announced those swimmers who were invited to the meet with a release of the meet’s psych sheets. Clinton’s Blaise Vera looks to be in position to shred state records in the sprint freestyle as he’s already seeded faster than the marks.
Vera, who also trains with the Mississippi Makos Swim Team and is the top-ranked swimmer in the state in the Class of 2017 by CollegeSwimming.com, should crushed the 50-yard free (21.58) and 100-yard free (46.82) state records as his seed times coming into the meet are a 21.26 and a 46.12. He also should help his squad challenge Tupelo High School for the 200-yard freestyle relay state title as part of Class 2.
The meet will take place in Tupelo, Miss. at the Tupelo Aquatic Center on the campus of Tupelo High. The meet is slated to take place on October 31 with state champions being named in both Class 1 and Class 2 events.
Last year, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal swept the boys and girls titles in Class 1 as the squad dominated the entire meet, nearly doubling up their nearest competitions in the team title race. Madison Central claimed the girls Class 2 title, while Tupelo picked up the boys Class 2 crown.
Saint Andrew’s is loaded this year as well, including top seeds in the boys 200-yard free (Thatcher Shepard: 1:50.85), boys 100-yard fly (Ben Hearon: 1:01.12), boys 100-yard free (Jack Smithson: 49.28), boys 100-yard back (Jack Smithson: 55.63) and boys 100-yard breast (Thatcher Shepard: 1:04.80). The girls might not have any top seeds, but each event is filled with Saint Andrew’s girls ready to score team points.
Im looking forward to the state meet. I’m training hard and looking to shoot for a best time of sub 45 in the 100 free and a sub 20 in the 50 free.
as of right now i am practicing for junior nationals and the 2016 arena grand prix
Way to go Blaise. Get under that 20!
