Bethany Firth, Eleanor Simmonds Set World Records at Para-International
Two more world records fell on night four of the British Para-International meet in Glasglow.
Bethany Firth set the S14 World Record in the 200 freestyle tonight, stopping the clock at 2:03.70. Two additional S14 classification athletes rounded out the podium. Jessica-Jane Applegate touched second in 2:05.63. Chloe Davies finished third in 2:13.26.
Eleanor Simmonds set a new S6 world record on her way to winning the women’s 400 freestyle. She touched in 5:18.69. Fellow S6 classification swimmer Eleanor Robinson earned third place with a time of 5:48.72. Rosie Bancroft finished second in 4:49.52, under the S10 classification.
In the men’s 200 freestyle a trio of S14 classification athletes topped the podium. Thomas Hamer out touched Wai Lok Tang 1:57.49 to 1:57.77 as the duo were the only athletes to break two minutes. Liam Schluter touched third in 2:01.93.
Oliver Hynd won the men’s 400 freestyle in 4:24.69, and fellow S8 classification athlete Josef Craig finished second in 4:36.06. Stephen Clegg earned third place with a 4:19.17, under the S12 classification.
