Australian Trials, Day 2, Prelims: Alex Perkins Sets New Australian All-Comers Record Of 25.46 in The 50m Butterfly

Paris Olympian Alexandria Perkins is on a roll at the World Trials meet in Adelaide, taking down Cate Campbell’s seven-year-old Australian All-Comers 50m butterfly record, clocking a time of 25.46 in the day two heats session.
Four-time Olympian Campbell, who was in the commentary booth calling the race, set the previous mark of 24.57 in Brisbane in 2018, while Perkins time is the fifth fastest in the world this year.
Perkins showed no ill-affects from last night’s sizzling swim to qualify for the Singapore World’s in the 100m butterfly with her 56.42 – the second fastest time in the world this year and the third fastest time by an Australian, behind Emma McKeon and Jess Schipper.
Rackley’s Lily Price, second home last night in the 100m also clocking a qualifying time for her first World Championships, was also the second fastest qualifier today in another personal best of 25.99, with last night’s 50m backstroke world championship qualifiers, Kaylee McKeown (USC Spartans, QLD) 59.38 and Mollie O’Callaghan (St Peters Western, QLD) 1:00.03 will be back in the water in the 100m backstroke final.
While two-time Olympian Zac Incerti (USC Spartans, QLD), the fastest qualifier from the morning heats and Harrison Turner (Nudgee College, QLD) have both withdrawn from the final of the men’s 200m freestyle – which gives Incert’s Paris teammate Kai Taylor (St Peters Western, QLD) – ninth in the heats – and Sydney young gun Marcus Da Silva (Cranbrook, NSW) late call ups into tonight’s final – and chances to make the team.
Taylor, who made the 2023 World Championship team from lane eight will swim from lane one with Da Silva – coming into the final in lane eight.
Australian Short Course champion Ed Somerville (1:46.02) will now adopt lane four for tonight’s final, after his personal best time too win the thirtfd seeded heat today in 1:46.02. A jam-packed finale that includes last night’s 400m winner Sam Short (Rackley, QLD), and Paris Olympians Flynn Southam (Bond, QLD), Olympic finalist Max Giuliani (TSS Aquatic, QLD) and Paris silver medallist in the 400m Elijah Winnington (St Peters Western, QLD).
Incerti has the 100m freestyle later in the program while Tufrner will swim the 100m butterfly final, with his main event, the 200m butterfly also later in the week.
