Competition continued this evening in Lewisville for Western Zone Speedo Sectionals: Four Corners. Highland Ranch sits in first place for overall team scores with 512 points. Jeffco Hurricanes follows with a total of 496 points, and University of Denver Hilltoppe rounds out third place overall with 416.5 points after this evening.
The session kicked off with finals of the women’s 100 backstroke. Rhyan White of Wasatch Front Fish Market topped the event in 53.36, while Elliyanna Ferrin of Bend Swim Club was not far behind in 53.65 for second place. Natalie Arky of Highland Ranch finished third in the event with her time of 54.46.

On the men’s side, Daniel Carr of Pikes Peak Athletics led the way with a 46.74 for the win, almost two seconds ahead of second-place Gavin Olson from Foothills Swim Team (48.25). The two were the only athletes under 50.00, with Joshua Ries of Hilltop Aquatic Swim Team coming in third in 50.09.

Kate Sanderson of Colorado Springs Swim Team won the women’s 500 freestyle, stopping the clock in 4:50.66, a seven-second drop from prelims. Utah Valley Aquatic’s Makayla Cazier was next in 4:55.08, with Brittney Beetcher of RallySport Aquatic Club touching close behind in 4:55.16.

University of Arizona commit Brooks Fail won Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics a handful of points with a big swim in the men’s 500 freestyle, finishing in 4:22.73. Carr was the runner-up in 4:26.88, while Michael Zarian of Jeffco Hurricanes touched third in 4:28.46.

Olympian Breeja Larson, swimming unattached, won the women’s 100 breaststroke in a dominant 58.15, finishing four seconds ahead of the rest of the field. 16-year-old Katie McBratney of Pitchfork Aquatics put up a noble time of 1:02.41 for second place, and Lauren Burckel of Lobo Aquatic Club finished in a close third with a 1:02.60.

The men’s event was a closer race, but Pitchfork Aquatics’ Aaron Beauchamp came out on top in 56.21. Jackson Binder of cottonwood Heights was close behind in 56.99, and Patrick Schramm of Phoenix Swim Club finished third with a time of 57.53.

Highlands Ranch had another top finisher in the women’s 100 butterfly with Alex Reddington, who stopped the clock in a 54.80, only 0.06 ahead of second-place Kylie Andrews of Foothills Swim Team. Reddington’s teammate Arky was third in 55.14.

Zarian, the top finisher in the men’s 100 fly, was the only swimmer to dip under the 48.00 mark with a 47.98 for first place. Seth Hendrix of University of Denver Hilltoppe finished second with a time of 48.74. Third place went to Lobo Aquatic Club’s Benjamin Waterman with a 48.99.

The last event of the evening was the 400-yard freestyle relay. Highland Ranch Aquatics won for the women, putting together a team of Delaney Smith, Reddington, Elsa Litteken, and Madison Hoehn to finish in 3:25.71. Foothills Swim Team squad of Andrews, Avery Turney, Aly Gallagher, and Abbey Selin placed second with a time of 3:26.89. Third place went to Cailen Chinn, Katherine McDonald, Christina Crane, and Katelyn Kenchel of Jeffco Hurricanes in 3:28.88.
University of Denver Hilltoppe’s team of Hendrix, Ryan Peterson, Blayze Jessen, and Keegan Bundy finished in first place for the men with a time of 3:03.95, shaving three seconds off of their seed time. Jeffco Hurricanes put together a squad of Justin Li, Zarian, Tyler Cohan, and Jonah Staton to finish second in 3:06.22. Close behind was Wasatch Front Fish Market in 3:06.64 (Lucas Hess, Mitchell Simmons, Talmage Corey, and Christian Simon).
