Arizona 5A Division II High School State Championships

MESA, Arizona, November 10. CHAPARRAL highlighted the Arizona 5A Division II High School State Championships. The Chaparral girls captured the state title with 386 points, followed by Pinnacle (326) and Desert Mountain (282). On the boys' side, Chaparral tallied 320 points while Horizon took second (259) and Boulder Creek placed third (237).
Girls Individual Results
Chaparral won all three relays. Ashley Brewer, Sara Dafoe, Malia Johnson, and Carly Johnson touched first in the 200 medley relay (1:48.57). M. Johnson also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.38.
Senior Ashley Evans (Pinnacle) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:49.23) and 500 (4:49.59) freestyles.
Deer Valley's Erica Stock, who is a four-star recruit in the Swimming World College Recruit rankings powered by Take Your Marks, had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:05.55) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.89).
C. Johnson teamed up with Alexis Mouer, Megan Cox, and Leticia Lelli for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.93).
Kaitlyn McLeod of Rincon won the diving competition with a score of 311.50. Other top finishers include Desert Mountain's Morgan White (298.45) and Sandra Day O'Connor's Megan Kelly (291.90).
Brewer, who is a three-star recruit, had an individual win in the 100 backstroke (56.87). She joined Cox, M. Johnson, and Lelli for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.25).
Boys Individual Results
Chaparral won two of three relays. Cody Vitez, Tanner Roe, Sam Morgan, and Brandon Rozell clocked a time of 1:40.20 in the 200 medley relay. Roe also had individual wins in the 200 (1:42.34) and 500 (4:33.72) freestyles.
Boulder Creek won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.50. John Schoppaul, Nick Badalamenti, Joe Baxter, and Brian Moore contributed to the win.
Sam Dorman of Marcos de Niza won the diving competition with a score of 574.75. Juniors Josh and Mike Bidak (Horizon) followed with scores of 477.65 and 454.80, respectively.
Vitez, who is a two-star recruit, was a dual event winner in the 200 IM (1:55.58) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.61). He teamed up with Roe, Dylan Cope, and Jackson Am to close the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.35).
