Anton Ipsen Downs 400 Free Meet Record at 2017 Atlanta Classic

Day two finals of the 2017 Atlanta Classic were highlighted by a dominating performance in the men’s 400 free, with two athletes posting times beneath the previous meet record of 3:55.15, set in 2016. Anton Ipsen’s name will go down in the books as the official record with a time of 3:50.40, however Mitch D’Arrigo also swam beneath the record with a 3:54.66. Nick Hogsed rounded out the top three with a 3:56.24.

The women’s 200 fly was topped by Asia Seidt, who delivered a top time of 2:13.51. 15-year-old Abby Harter finished second overall with a 2:14.43, while NCAP teammate Isabella Gati was a close third with a time of 2:14.63.

Seidt added a second gold to her name with a top showing in the women’s 100 back. She stopped the clock at a 1:01.04, followed up by Bridget Alexander’s 1:01.54. 15-year-old Alex Walsh took third with a 1:02.14.

Sam McHugh grabbed victory in the men’s 200 fly with a 2:00.85, followed by Lucca Martins’ second place finish of 2:02.89. Powell Brooks rounded out the top three with a 2:04.11.

NC State’s Ky-lee Perry sprinted to victory in the women’s 50 free, stopping the clock at a 25.65 to be the only athlete beneath the 26-second mark. Swim Atlanta teammates Amanda Weir and Madeline Locus posted close finishes of 26.02 and 26.11 for second and third.

2016 Olympian Caeleb Dressel added another win to his name with a swift 22.13 in the men’s 50 free. NC State’s Justin Ress touched second overall with a 22.69, followed closely by Zach Apple’s 22.72.

Ress had a quick turn-around from his second-place finish in the 50 free, with a first place finish in the men’s 100 back. Ress posted a time of 53.75 for first, followed by Corey Main and his time of 54.64. Taylor Dale completed the top three with a 55.66.

Vanessa Pearl delivered the top time in the women’s 200 breast, stopping the clock at a dominating 2:29.43. Ella Nelson grabbed second with a final time of 2:32.37, ahead of Justine Macfarlane’s 2:34.85.

Cal’s Josh Prenot earned the gold in the men’s 200 breast with a top showing of 2:14.95. Brennan Pastorek picked up the silver with a 2:16.01 showing, followed by Chandler Bray’s 2:18.51.

Stephanie Peters’ won a narrow victory over NC State’s Hannah Moore in the women’s 400 free. Peters grabbed the gold with a 4:13.40, just ahead of Moore’s 4:13.62. Geena Freriks completed the podium with a 4:13.86 for third.
