Ali Khalafalla Propells Indiana At Night One Of Hoosierland Invite
It was quite a day for Ali Khalafalla.
On the first night of the Hoosierland Invitational, the Indiana sophomore won the 50-yard freestyle and was also on the Hoosiers’ winning 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams.
The evening started off with an Indiana win in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay. The Hoosier’s clocked in at 1:30.84. The team consisted of Kaitlin Kitchens, Gabi Rajic, Ally Rockett and Grace Vertigans. The Hoosiers’ men’s relay posted a time of 1:19.29, winning the race by nearly two seconds. Khalafalla was joined on the winning team by Tanner Kurz, Oliver Patrouch and Sam Lorentz.
Indiana dominated the women’s 500-yard freestyle. Hoosier swimmers finished in first, second, third and fourth place. Haley Lips touched first with a time of 4:39.24, an NCAA ‘B’ time standard.
The Hoosier domination continued in the men’s 500-yard race. Indiana swimmers finished in first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth place. Max Irwin led the charge with a time of 4:17.19, a ‘B’ time standard.
The Indiana women took first through seventh place in the 200-yard individual medley. Gia Dalesandro set the pace with a time of 1:58.98, another ‘B’ time standard. The Hoosiers also claimed the first five spots in the men’s race. Kurz took home the win with a time of 1:46.83, an NCAA ‘B’ time standard.
The Hoosier reign ended in the women’s 50-yard freestyle. Cincinnati’s Jackie Keire won the race with a time of 22.60, a ‘B’ time standard. Khalafalla won the men’s race in 19.58, earning a ‘B’ standard.
In the women’s 400-yard medley relay, Indiana won with a time of 3:38.10. The team was made up of backstroker Marie Chamberlain, breaststroker Bailey Pressey, butterflier Gia Dalesandro and Lips, who swam freestyle.
The evening’s only NCAA ‘A’ time standard came in the men’s 400-medley relay. The Hoosiers’ won with a time of 3:07.13. The team consisted of backstroker Bob Glover, breaststroker Tannery Kurz, butterflier Max Irwin and Khalafalla, who swam freestyle.
