Abbey Erwin Among Record Breakers at Idaho High School State Meet

The 2015 Idaho High School State Championships kicked off with a new state record in the women’s 200 free from Abbey Erwin of Boise High School. Erwin stopped the clock at 1:50.00 to earn first place and to replace her state record of 1:51.94 from 2013.

Erwin solidified her state record in the 500 free by lowering it by almost three seconds from 4:53.12 in 2012 down to a 4:50.56.

The women of Boise high school swept the competition by collecting a whopping 399 points. Second in the meet went to Couer D Alene who collected a total of 202.5 points, while Rocky Mountain high school rounded out the top three with a total of 188 points.

Payton Bokowy of Sandpoint collected a win in the women’s 50 free, posting a final time of 24.00. Isabella Rhodes of Calvary Chapel Christian took second with a time of 24.30, while Maggie De Tar of Post Falls finished third with a 24.44.

Maddie Johnson of Wood River succeeded in lowering her own 100 fly state record of 56.87 from 2014 down to a 56.75. Bishop Kelly’s Nikita Rubocki turned in a final time of 57.97 for second, while Chiloe Spelius of Community School was third with a 59.01.

Bokowy grabbed a second win in the women’s 100 free, stopping the clock at 52.23. Boise’s Taylor Anderson took second overall with a time of 53.01, and third went to Rhodes’s 53.27.

The Boise 200 free relay team of Annie Bartolome (25.61), Maggie Erwin (25.32), Isabel Swafford (24.49) and Sammie Eyolfson (25.28) set a new state record time of 1:40.70. Their time replaces the record set by Boise high school of 1:41.48 in 2011. Rocky Mountain High School finished second with a time of 1:41.87, while Skyline was third with a time of 1:43.54.

Rocky Mountain’s Charity Pittard turned in a scorching 56.80 to lower the 2007 state meet record of 57.90 set by Hannah Ross. Anderson of Boise also swam under the former record stopping the clock at the 57.74 mark.

Andrea Perttula Idaho Falls and Nicole Rozier of Coeur d’Alene tied for first in the women’s 100 breaststroke simultaneously stopping the clock at 1:06.41. Coeur d’Alene’s Micah Hudlet was a close third posting a time of 1:06.43.

Boise High School continued their record-breaking streak in the women’s 400 free relay with the team of A. Erwin (52.07) , M. Erwin (54.31), Sydney Walker (54.94) and Anderson (53.61) posting a combined time of 3:34.93. Their time lowered the state meet record by 3.85 seconds from Eagle High’s record of 3:38.78 set in 2012.

  • Nicole Rozier— 200 IM (2:04.09)

On the men’s side, it was also Boise high school that took home the win with a total of 280 points. Couer D Alene collected second with a total of 228 points, and third went to Hillcrest high school and their 206 points.

Boise’s Luke Yost and Meridian’s Andrew Clifford battled for first in the men’s 200 free exchanging the lead throughout the race. In the end it was Yost who pulled ahead and got his wall to the first, stopping the clock at 1:44.02 over Clifford’s 1:44.23.

The close finishes continued into the men’s 200 IM with Cy Jager of Moscow High and Mirza Ljubijankic of Centennial High battling throughout the race. Despite Ljubijankic having a faster back half of the race, it was not enough to close the gap between him and Jager. Jager finished first with a time of 1:55.20 over Ljubijankic’s 1:55.95.

Hillcrest’s Roger Woods tied Ethan Cordes’ 2014 state meet record of 20.83 in the men’s 50 free. Bishop Kelly’s Thomas Roark turned in a final time of 21.17 for second, while third went to Moscow’s John Billington and his time of 21.53.

Woods continued his record-breaking performances in the men’s 100 free, lowering his own record of 45.92 from 2014 down to a quick 45.73.

The relay team of Jackson Cunningham (22.57), Sebastian Chao (22.40), Koller Lange (21.76) and Jay Van Buren (22.06) from Mountain View High School lowered the state meet record in the men’s 200 free relay from a 1:29.15 set in 2014 by Coeur d’Alene to a 1:28.79.
