50 Backstroke National Records Fall at Korean Olympic Trials

In day four finals action at the Korean Olympic Trials, two national records and six meet records fell.

Won Young-jun won the men’s 50 backstroke in a new national record, and the ninth fastest time in the world this year. The 25.07 bests the 2009 record of 25.29.

The South Korean national record also fell in the women’s 50 backstroke.Yuhyeonji stopped the clock in 28.17, under her 28.30 from the morning and the old record of 28.80. That time is also a tie for the 13th best in the world this year.

Park Tae-hwan set a new meet record on his way to winning the men’s 100 freestyle tonight. Park touched in 48.91, a half second from his national record set in 2014.

Gim Jeong Hye was the first woman to the wall in the 100 freestyle, touching in 55.67 from lane two. That time is a new meet record. Outside smoke was the story in this championship heat, as Seo Jin Huang was second from lane one in a 55.99. Jeong Soeun rounded out the podium, posting a 56.09 from lane seven.

Chang Gyu-Cheol completed a butterfly double, winning the men’s 200 tonight in a 1:58.73.

Ansehyeon tied the 14th best time in the world this year, winning the women’s 200 butterfly in 2:08.41, also a new meet record.

The team from Daegu City Hall set a new meet record in the men’s 800 freestyle relay, stopping the clock in 7:26.55. North Jeolla Province Sports Council was victorious on the women’s side, finishing in 8:23.37.
