The final night of the 2017 Speedo Sectionals Minneapolis was once again a fast night. The night featured many wins by previous event winners, including Jessica Unicomb, Joseph Milinovich, and Nicholas Plachinski. Most notably, 15 year old Grace Cooper swam the ninth fastest time in U.S. history for 15-16 year old girls, putting her among the ranks of Olympians Simone Manuel, Abbey Weitzel, and others.
After an incredible 200 backstroke last night, Wisconsin’s Jessica Unicomb returned to the final night of competition to lead the women’s 200 IM. Unicomb finished first in a time of 2:17.86. Missouri State’s Josie Pearson came in second behind Unicomb in 2:19.45. Pearson just beat out Missouri’s Kylie Dahlgren, who was third in 2:19.52.

Another Wisconsin swimmer, Joseph Milinovich, won the men’s 200 IM. Milinovich swam a time of 2:05.64, ahead of Missouri State’s Phillip Willett who came in at 2:05.87 for second. Milinovich’s teammate, Griffin Back, took third in 2:07.21.

15 year old Grace Cooper of Delta Aquatics won the women’s 50 freestyle in a quick 25.38. Cooper’s time was a lifetime best by over a second and would have put her in the B final at last month’s Phillips 66 National Championships. That time ranks her ninth all-time for 15-16 year olds–and she is just 15. Minnesota’s Zoe Avestruz was second behind Cooper in 25.80. Unicomb, coming off her 200 IM win, took third in 25.89.
