2020 US Open: Dan Krueger Grabs San Antonio Victory in 100 Free; Carson Foster Adds Third Win
As one of the University of Texas’ go-to performers, Daniel Krueger has put up some impressive swims in the short-course pool over the past few months. On Saturday, he claimed victory in the 100-meter freestyle at the San Antonio locale of the US Open. Krueger led a 1-2-3 finish of either current or former Longhorns, winning the event in 50.17.
As long as the pandemic doesn’t cancel the 2021 NCAA Championships, as was the case last spring, Krueger is expected to lead Texas in pursuit of another team title. He was followed in San Antonio by Texas product Jeff Newkirk (50.40) and current teammate Drew Kibler (50.54). The Longhorns are currently in heavy training under coach Eddie Reese.
Texas freshman Carson Foster picked up his third victory of the weekend when he stopped the clock in 1:59.26 in the 200 butterfly. That win backed up earlier first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley. Other victories from Texas guys came from Caspar Corbeau (2:14.37) in the 200 breaststroke, Ethan Harder (2:03.91) in the 200 backstroke and Jack Collins (15:22.05) in the 1500 freestyle.
On the women’s side, Madisyn Cox continued her strong weekend by claiming a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.55). That win complemented Cox’s earlier wins in the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle.

Isabelle Odgers logged a strong 200 breaststroke, as she touched the wall in 2:28.69, and Katie Crom won the 200 butterfly in 2:12.94.
Among the men, Grant House was swiftest in the 100 freestyle behind a time of 49.47, with Jorge Iga also breaking the 50-second barrier in 49.86. Zheng Wen Quah was the winner of the 200 butterfly in 1:59.16 while Brandon Fischer bested the competition in the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.60.
