2019 NJCAA Championships Day 4: Indian River Men, Women Dominate

The final night of the 2019 NJCAA Championships was a night to remember in Buffalo, New York. Indian River continued their reign. The men have won 45 titles and the women have 37 titles in a row. The Indian River men won the meet by 625 points and the women won by 710 points. The night consisted of the following events: 50 fly, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, Women’s 3-meter diving and the 400 free relay.

Women’s 50 Fly

Indian River’s Emma Colvin won the event with a time 25.10. In second was her team mate Camryn Hudson in a time of 26.16. Third was Patricija Ozola of Southwestern Oregon with a time of 26.48. Reagan Smyth of Barton was fourth (26.88) and Abigail Aldridge of South Georgia (27.06) was fifth. Mary Marshall of Iowa Central was sixth in a time of 27.49. Majo Diaz, also of Iowa Central, was seventh in a time of 27.59 and Lindsey Garrison of South Georgia was eighth with a time of 27.68.

Men’s 50 Fly

Ruben Van Leeuwen of Indian River won the event in a time of 21.35. James Camp of Southwestern Oregon in a time 21.42. Iowa Central’s Mitch Emery was third in a time 22.09. Indian River’s Michael Hartshorne (22.15) and Jared Ingram (22.44) were fourth and fifth. In sixth was Marco Alvarez Sanchez of Barton in a time of 22.62. In seventh and eighth were Jackson Bloom of South Georgia (23.21) and Tucker Adams of Indian River (23.25).

Women’s 100 Free

Sophia Diagne of Indian River won the event in a time of 50.26. In the top five, were her team mates Elianna Kennon (51.19), Camryn Wheals (51.49), Elizabeth Watts (52.23) and Kenzy Green (53.10). In sixth and seventh were Barton team mates, Reagan Smyth (53.48) and McKayla Siemiller (55.22). In eighth was Zoe Beals of Iowa Central in a time of 55.86.

Men’s 100 Free

The top four contenders were from Indian River. The winner was Ryen Van Wyk (43.82). He was followed by Tiger Pilkington (44.94), Kevin Bargate (45.42) and Joshua Stegen (45.43). Emile Lutzeler of Iowa Central was fifth in a time of 46.24. David Garcia of Barton was sixth (47.39). Caleb Gaylor of Iowa Central (47.59) and Landon Stalnaker of Southwestern Oregon (48.09) were seventh and eighth.

Women’s 200 Back

Sule Van Der Merwe of Indian River was first to touch the wall in a time of 2:01.57. Patricija Ozola of Southwestern Oregon in a time of 2:06.86. Juliana Villa Rodrigues of Indian River was third in a time of 2:08.88. She was followed by her team mate Jillian Contich in a time of 2:13.00. Piper Engler of Southwestern Oregon was fifth in a time of 2:13.35. Paula Ronda of Iowa Central was sixth with a time of 2:14.52. South Georgia’s Kristen Farless (2:15.93) and Liz Crewe-Brown of Indian River (2:16.23) were seventh and eighth, respectively.

Men’s 200 Back

The top two finishers were from Indian River. Taking the number one spot was Jarryd Baxter in a time of 1:45.12. In second was Conor Lynch in a time of 1:46.93. Iowa Central’s Mariano Sosa in a time of 1:50.28. Ryan Buczkowski of South Georgia was fourth in a time of 1:56.56. Austin Turner of Southwestern Oregon was fifth in a time of 1:59.96. Team mates of South Georgia Wyatt Dalton and Orion Bopp were sixth and seventh in times of 2:00.27 and 2:01.81. Hunter Sherwood of Southwestern Oregon was eighth in a time of 2:02.74.

Women’s 200 Breast

Indian River’s Savanna Best won the event in a time of 2:18.35. Emilie Andrin of Iowa Central was second in a time of 2:26.70. In third was Natalie Soive of Southwestern Oregon in a time of 2:29.19. In fourth was Elizabeth Spitz of Barton in a time of 2:30.45. In fifth was Jaelyn Estabilio of Southwestern Oregon in a time of 2:31.26. Jessilyn Graham of South Georgia (2:34.92) was sixth. Elizabeth Schrock of Barton (2:37.74) was seventh. Gabi Reis Iowa Lakes (2:42.75) finished eighth.

Men’s 200 Breast

Indian River took over the top three spots. First was Olle Williamsson in a time of 2:00.46. Second was Christian Nishimura in a time of 2:02.91. In third was Eric Veit in a time of 2:03.31. In fourth was Emerson Zaplatar of Southwestern Oregon in a time of 2:05.37. Chris Mazier of South Georgia in a time of 2:07.45. Gregory Sanders of Monroe was sixth in a time of 2:08.41. Christian Taylor of Barton (2:09.67) and Alfonso Flores Romero of Iowa Central (2:11.68) were seventh and eighth.

Women’s 3-Meter Diving

Indian River’s Gabby Tolento won the event with a score of 447.25. In second was Indian River’s Coy Jones with a score of 388.05. Erie’s Haley Roblee was third with a score of 367.90. In fourth was Kasey Crooks of Indian River with a score of 336.00. In fifth was Stephanie Zmunda of Erie with a score 298.20

Women’s 400 Free Relay

Indian River‘s team of Sophia Diagne, Elianna Kennon, Camryn Wheals and Emma Colvin won the event in a time of 3:24.72. In second and third were Iowa Central (3:39.80) and South Georgia (3:40.50)

Men’s 400 Free Relay

Indian River‘s team of Ruben Van Leeuwen, Ryen Van Wyk, Jarryd Baxter and Jared Ingram came out on top in a time of 2:58.53. Iowa Central was second in a time of 3:06.83. In third was Southwestern Oregon with a time of 3:08.66.
