2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships: Henry, Gray, Smith and Grobbelaar Break Age Group Records
The 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships were in full swing for day two. The nigh included the following women’s events: 400 IM, 50 breast, 200 fly and the 400 medley relay. The men competed in the following events: 200 breast, 50 fly, 200 free and the 400 medley relay. Several records fell as well. Tyron Henry broke the New Zealand 17 Years Age Record for the 200 free. Cameron Gray broke the New Zealand 15 Years Age Record in the B Final of the 50 Butterfly with a time of 25.09 seconds. Ciara Smith broke the 18 Years Age Record for the 50 breast. Luan Grobbelaar broke his own 17 Years Age Record in the 200 Breaststroke.
Women’s 400 IM
Gina McCarthy of Hillcrest Swim Club touched first with a time of 4:52.62. In second was Mya Rasmussen of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 4:56.53. In a tie for third was Ella Ramsay of St Peter’s Western and Ciara Smith of Northwave Swim Club with a time of 5:00.08. In fifth was Madison Wills of Kiwi Asc with a time of 5:07.30. Tyler Finau of Enterprise Swim Club followed with a time of 5:08.13. In seventh was Nikki Chapman of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 5:11.71. In eighth was Lucy North of Aquabladz New Plymouth Swimming with a time of 5:14.66.
Men’s 200 Breast
Julian Layton of Heretaunga Sundevils was victorious with a time of 2:12.45 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. In second was Luan Grobbelaar of Kiwi West Aquatics with a time of 2:16.19. Tied for third was Taichi Vakasama of Fiji Swimming and Eliot Lundon-Moore of Capital Swim Club with a time of 2:16.40. In fifth was Jiahao Gong of Shanghai Swimming Team with a time of 2:18.54. Bailey Wang of Phoenix Aquatics was sixth with a time of 2:20.25. Zarhn Collins of Aquabladz New Plymouth Swimming followed with a time of 2:20.91. Josh Gilbert of Evolution Aquatics Tauranga rounded out the top eight with a time of 2:21.91.
Men’s 50 Fly
Bayley Main of Howick Pakuranga out touched the heat with a time of 24.26 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. In a tie for second was Aukai Lileikis of Hawaiian Swimming and Ollie Rayner of North Canterbury Swim Club Inc with a time of 24.68. In third was Carter Swift of Hawera Swimming Club with a time of 24.73. Luke Gebbie of Philippine Swimming was fifth with a time of 24.81. In sixth was Chris Dawson of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 24.89. In seventh was Christopher Elson of Wharenui Swim Club in a time of 25.10. In eighth was Ben Littlejohn of St Paul’s Swimming Club in a time of 25.34.
Women’s 50 Breast
In a tie for the gold medal was Jessica Erikson of Sweden and Ciara Smith of Northwave Swim Club in a time of 32.33. In second was Kaylee Jackson of Jasi Swim Club in a time of 32.70. Bronagh Ryan of Capital Swim Club was third with a time of 33.11. Melissa Cowen of North Shore Swimming Club was fifth in a time of 33.20. Mikayla Dance of United Swimming Club was sixth with a time of 33.44. In seventh was Kirsten Fisher-Marsters of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 34.28. Emma Dick of Aquagym Swimming Club rounded out the top eight with a time of 34.67.
Men’s 200 Free
Lewis Clareburt of Capital Swim Club won the event with a time of 1:48.11 at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. In second was Matthew Stanley of Matamata Swim Club with a time of 1:48.34. In third was Daniel Hunter of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 1:49.13. In fourth was Zac Reid of Aquabladz New Plymouth Swimming with a time of 1:49.41. Lane Stone of Aquagym Swimming Club followed with a time of 1:49.67. Jonathan Rutter of North Shore Swimming Club was sixth with a time of 1:50.08. Andrew Jeffcoat of Pukekohe Swimming Club was seventh with a time of 1:50.53. In eighth was Tyron Henry of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 1:51.20.
Women’s 200 Fly
Kiana Swain of Pukekohe Swimming Club was victorious with a time of 2:17.28. Jenna Rolston-Larking of Capital Swim Club followed in second place with a time of 2:17.71. In third was Naia Anderson of Mt Maunganui Swimming Club with a time of 2:18.94. In fourth was Jessica Scott of Neptune Swim Club with a time of 2:20.81. Touching fifth was Katlyn Steedman of Pukekohe Swimming Club with a time of 2:21.44. In sixth was Sarah Miller of St Paul’s Swimming Club with a time of 2:24.60. In seventh was Grace Baik of United Swimming Club with a time of 2:26.54. Touching in eighth was Katie Helm of Tawa Swimming Club with a time of 2:27.34.
Men’s 400 Medley Relay
In first was North Shore Swimming Club in a time of 3:43.70 with the team of Bradlee Ashby, Jonathan Rutter, Chris Dawson and Wilrich Coetzee. In second was Capital Swim Club in a time of 3:43.90. Tying for third was Shanghai Swimming Team and Howick Pakuranga in a time of 3:48.95.
Women’s 400 Medley Relay
In first was North Shore Swimming Club in a time of 4:13.96 with their team of Ali Galyer, Melissa Cowen, Tori McTeigue and Carina Doyle. In second was United Swimming Club with a time of 4:14.43 and in third was Capital Swim Club with a time of 4:17.47.
