Seto continued his dominant meet by winning the 400 IM in 4:09.98 to easily hold off the rest of the field. Yuki Ikari finished second in 4:13.54. Set was the only one in the field to reach the worlds qualifying time in the event.

Set has the fastest time in the world this year at 4:09.25 that he set in January.

In the women’s race, Yui Ohashi won the 400 IM in 4:33.02, well under the qualifying time for worlds. Sakiko Shimizu finished second in 4:39.37.

In the men’s 100 fly, Naomi Nizunuma cruised to victory and qualified for worlds after clocking a 51.43. He held off Yuki Kobori (51.97) and Takasa Tasuie (52.02).

Shinri Shioura finished the 50 free in 21.73, four hundredths off of his national record in the event that he set in yesterday’s semifinals.

In the women’s 50 free, Rika Omoto won in 25.02. The 21-year-old was a half second off the qualifying time.

In the men’s 50 back, Ryosuke Irie won in 24.95, a half second off the worlds qualifying standard. The night before, Irie got things done again, dropping nearly three seconds and winning with a time of 1:55.79. This is off the national record time, but still a Gwangju Worlds A cut.

Satomo Suzuki won the women’s 50 breast in 30.88, also a half second behind the world standard.

Rio Shirai won the 200 back in 2:09.58 and Ayatsugi Harai won the 1500 free in 15:08.00.

The swimmers who didn’t qualify for worlds have another shot at the Japan Open next month to reach the qualifying standard.
