Paige Madden of Virginia started off the meet with a strong swim in the 200 free, posting a 2:00.98. Madden was out fast in 58.40 and faded in the second 100, but was able to hold off NC State’s Kylee Alons, who was all over the 50 shootouts yesterday, who was second in 2:01.45. That is a solid in-season swim for Madden who had a banner year at UVA, finishing second in the 500 at NCAA’s with best times across the board. Her best long course time in a 1:58.50, and she will certainly be gunning for that at the World University Games this summer.

Jack Conger won the men’s 200 free by nearly 2 seconds, touching as the only swimmer in the field under 1:50. He was 1:49.68 to get the win. He followed up with a close win in the 100 fly, winning in just a tenth over NC State’s Coleman Stewart 53.31 to 53.42.

Rachel Bernhardt was just over a second off her best time to win the 100 breast (1:09.71). She was just ahead of Abigail Arens, who was about a second off her own best time of as well to also sneak under 1:10 in 1:09.97. Bernhardt came back to lead the semi-finals of the 50 breast in 32.39. Nils Wich-Glasen won the men’s 100 breast in 1:03.17.

Tonight’s finals session also featured the semi-finals of the 50 shoot-outs. NC State women dominated the 50 back, taking three of the four top spots with Wolfpack member Elise Haan leading the charge in 28.29. Paul Le from the NC State post-grad group led the men’s 50 back in 25.98.

Ky-lee Perry was the top qualifier out of the women’s 50 free (25.28), followed closely by Madison Kennedy (25.51) and Katherine Douglass (25.61). Nathan Lile was the top qualifier for the men’s 50 (22.91). Keefer Barnum led all men’s 50 breast swimmers in 28.82. Adaline Bullock was the top qualifier out of the women’s 50 fly semis (27.99), while Lile grabbed his second leading time in the men’s 50 fly (24.29).

Other winners included Halladay Kinsey in the women’s 100 fly (1:01.85), Makayla Sargent in the 400 IM (4:43.04), and Michael Moore in the men’s 400 IM (4:26.89).
