Men’s 200 Fly:
Eben Vorster of South Africa delivered the top time in finals of the men’s 200 fly, stopping the clock at a 2:01.03.
Vorster was followed to the wall by Egypt’s Ahmed Hamdy and Algeria’s Lounis Khendriche. Hamdy got his hand to the wall first with a 2:03.27, while Khendriche was third with a 2:03.48.
Alard Basson of South Africa took fourth with a time of 2:04.53, just ahead of Morocco’s Nouamane Battahi (2:04.74).
Morocco’s Said Saber completed the short heat with a final time of 2:05.88.
Women’s 200 IM:
Rebecca Meder of South Africa topped the competition in finals of the women’s 200 IM with a final time of 2:20.37.
Algeria’s Rania Hamida Nefsi, Egypt’s Rowaida Hesham, and South Africa’s Gabi Grobler battled for the remaining spots on the podium, finishing .23 seconds apart. Nefsi got her hand to the wall first, stopping the clock at a 2:22.16. Hesham and Grobler were close behind with times of 2:22.38 and 2:22.39.
Antonia Roth of Namibia placed fifth overall with a time of 2:32.66, followed by Angola’s Raquel Tremoco and her time of 2:41.96.
Mauritius’ Layne Lim Ah Tock finished seventh with a time of 2:45.50.
Layla Suneira Taquidir of Mozambique was labeled a “no-show” for the event.
Men’s 100 Back:
South Africa continued their gold medal performances with a top showing from Jacques van Wyk. Van Wyk delivered a 56.50 to earn his first gold of the day.
Mohamed Samy of Egypt turned in a 57.31 for the silver, followed closely by South Africa’s Neil de Villiers and his final time of 57.43.
Morocco’s Driss Lahrichi posted a 58.09 for fourth, while teammate Adil Assouab turned in a 58.98 for fifth.
Namibia’s Alexander Skinner (1:01.51), Senegal’s Matar Samb (1:04.98), and Sudan’s Rami Elias (1:05.17) completed the top eight.
Women’s 50 Free:
Algeria’s Amel Melih dashed to victory in the women’s 50 free, delivering the only sub-27 second swim of the day. Melih stopped the clock at a 26.72 to add another gold medal to her collection.
Rowan El Badry of Egypt got her hand to the wall just ahead of Seychelles’ Alexus Laird to earn second with a 27.02. Laird settled for third and a 27.03.
Samantha Labuschagne of South Africa finished fourth overall with a 27.15, while Egypt’s Mai Atef took fifth with a 27.23.
South Africa’s Lesley Blignaut (27.70), Senegal’s Jeanne Boutbien (27.97), and Mauritius’ Annah Auckburaullee (29.21) rounded out the top eight.
Men’s 1500 Free:
South Africa’s Brent Szurdoki out-lasted the competition in finals of the men’s 1500 free, stopping the clock at a 15:37.65, while teammate Josh Dannhauser took third with a 16:00.17.
Marwan Elamrawy of Egypt posted a 15:48.33 for second overall.
Namibia’s Phillip Seidler completed the short heat with a time of 16:45.49.
