2015 NCAA Division II Championships: Queens Reigns Supreme With Team-Title Sweep
Queens (Charlotte) reigned supreme by the end of the evening at the NCAA Division II Championships.
Both the men’s and the women’s teams ended long reigns by Drury, which had won 10 straight men’s titles and five of the last six women’s championships.
The men’s team took home the title over Drury, 433.5-417.5, while Lindenwood snared third overall with 359 points. Wayne State (285) and Florida Southern (273.5) closed out the top five teams.
The Queens women had a bit of an easier time of it with a 540.5-489.5 victory against Drury. Wingate (320), Nova Southeastern (216) and Wayne State (211) rounded out the top five.
The top individual swim of the night definitely went to Nova Southeastern’s Anton Lobanov, who vaulted to eighth all time in the 200-yard breast.
Women’s 1650 free
Lindenwood’s Alecia McGillivray added the 1650 free title to her 1000 free win from night one at the NCAA D2 championships.
McGillivray won the 1650 by a wide margin with a 16:46.25 for the victory. She took charge at the 1300-yard mark and never looked back.
Bridgeport’s Annagrazia Bonsanti threw down a 16:50.11 in the earlier heats to take second overall, while West Chester’s Kendall Somer earned third overall in 16:50.21.
Queens and Drury matched each other in terms of team points with Queens remaining in the lead, 443.5-378.5.

Arakelian won the 1650 free with a time of 15:10.33, while Saint Leo’s Daniel Bis finished second in 15:12.05 after initially battling with Arakelian throughout much of the race.
Queens’ Alex Menke took third in 15:16.84, while Drury’s Alec Morris picked up some big team points for the Panthers with a fifth-place 15:26.95.
Queens jumped out to a 352.5-316.5 lead following the event.

Men’s 200 breast
Nova Southeastern freshman Anton Lobanov might not have won as many titles as Queens’ Matt Josa, but he certainly has had better top-end swims with his breaststroke sweep.
After jumping to sixth all time in the 100 breast, Lobanov followed that up by vaulting to eighth all time in the men’s 200-yard breast with a ridiculously fast 1:51.71.
That swim dropped five seconds from his prelim swim of 1:56.91, and smashed the NCAA D2 record of 1:54.45 clocked by Nicholas Korth of UCSD a year ago.
Notably, Queens’ Nic Eriksson (1:55.65) and Cal Baptist’s Nikolay Klepikov (1:56.32) took second and third, while Queens still held the team lead 409.5-377.5 against Drury.
Queens has the title won barring a relay disqualification.
