Many mothers dislike the early mornings that come with the first months of parenthood, but for silver-medallist swimmer Nyree Kindred they have proved most helpful.
Kindred has spent the last year juggling training for the biggest competition of her life with looking after 14-month old Ella.
And Ella was looking on at London's Aquatics Centre as Kindred won her 10th Paralympic medal across four Games, claiming silver in the 100m backstroke.
It took a world record swim from China's Lu Dong to beat Wales' Kindred, who finished just over a second adrift of Dong with a swim of 1.26.23 minutes - a new personal best.
Kindred, whose husband Sascha will also swim for Great Britain at the Games, dedicated the medal to her baby daughter who has helped wake up the Hereford-based couple in time for morning training.
"This medal is right up there with my best," said the Porth-born 31-year-old.
"Athens was my biggest achievement winning five medals including two gold, and I got silver in Beijing and back then I was disappointed. But to win a silver medal with a personal best time one year after having a daughter, I can't complain at all.
"My daughter is 14 months old and she was in the crowd cheering me on and she is the best thing in the world.
"In a sense it has been difficult with being a mother and also training, but I just have to juggle my time a little better.
"My husband swims as well, but we have a fantastic support network at home in Hereford.
"Ella is great and she fits into our lifestyle as she is an early riser, so that's perfect for morning training."
